Exploring Montalcino: The Land of Brunello Wine

Montalcino welcomes visitors into its old medieval layout, with straight, steep streets and breath-taking views waiting at the top, where the old citadel dominates the surroundings: built in 1361, it became the Sienese Republic’s last line defense against Medici expansion. The main square of the village is Piazza del Popolo, where the town hall is in Palazzo Comunale, known also as Palazzo dei Priori. The streets and plaza are full of local products shops, with the Brunello wine of course, but also truffle and traditional cold cuts.

The village of Montalcino, along with the entire Val d’Orcia, was recognized as World Heritage site in 2004. The best way to discover the Val d’Orcia with its numberless small villages and breath-taking views is by an Elicompany helicopter tour
